THE LEND-AND-LEASE BILL

Three Restrictive Amendments Considered Likely

PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT'S Lease-and- Lend Bill is likely to be amended before it passes, but not seriously enough to interfere with the President's plans for aiding those fighting aggression.

As the result of conferences among Con- gressional leaders yesterday it seems prob- able that three amendments will be offered and probably accepted.

SECRET CRITICS have been at work in the A.T.S. They have sent confidential reports on the efficiency of each officer to the War Office. Some have been written by men at the head of depart- ments to which AT.S. girls are attached. Others are the work of women placed in authority by gen- crals who are convinced of their ability.

But even the women officers who have made these reviews are the subject of reports by others holding higher positions still. Each woman is un- aware of the identity of the man who is sending a confidential criticism to the War Office about her. Wholesale dismissals of A.TS. officers are not ex- pected, a reporter was told.
