only as the result of two brilliant tackles by Charter, who, however, did little else right. Manfield stood out head and shoulders above any forward on view,
For Club Nelson and Morgan were always dangerous, while Olesen, B. Hynes and Lee were outstanding at forward.

Club opened the scoring when Wilson rather fortunately slid on to the ball when it was over the soldiers' line. Needham failed to convert from the touch line. The winners took the lead when Man. fleld followed up a punt ahead and knocked the ball out of Char- ter's hands and then went on to score close in for Coombes to kick
goal.
In the second
hall Coombes narrowly missed landing a penalty goal from 35 yards, and soon after Club went ahead when Wilson broke away on the wing to score between the posts for Burford to convert. Small Units came on level terms when Coombes easily kicked a penalty goal from close in, and the sol- diers went ahead when Coombes kicked a great goal from 40 yards following obstruction. Coombes was primarily responsible for the inal score as it was following his darinig cut through and subsequent tackle by Charter that the ball went loose to Manfield, who cleverly kept the ball from going over the dead line before touching down between the posts for Coombes to convert.
