The children had been evacuat- ed for safety to their uncle's Cum- berland farm,

Riding in the cart were, Edwin Harrison Jeffrey, aged thirteen. and his brother Hugh, aged ten, sons of Mr. John Edwin Jeffrey, chemist and dentist, of King's Road, Chelsea, London.

The horse was led by a farm hand, Harold Dickinson. While. passing along a cart track above an embankment the horse fright and bolted.

Skull Fractured Dickinson held on to the reins. till he was pulled over the em bankment. Then the horse and cart, with the two boys in it, roll- ed over and over.

The boys were thrown out, and were found lying together half way down the embankment. Ed- win was unconscious and died later from a fracture of the skull. Hugh had a fractured leg.

Walking behind the cart was Jean Caroline, Edwin's twin sis ter.
