Main objective was the Scholven synthe- tic oil plant af Buer, in the neighbourhood of Gelsenkirchen. This is one of Germany's most important hydrogenation plants for the manufacture of synthetic aviation petrol from coal; it was designed to produce 300,000 metric tons annually.
