Ferrier And The Amateur Status Well-Known American Sports Writer Agrees
With His Ban From National Amateur In Australia Professionalism Does Not Pay
HIS BEING BARRED from the National Amat- eur on the eve of the qualifying trial in August be-. cause of a book he wrote in January may be a "shyme," as James Ferrier, the Australian, says, but agree with the United States Golf Association in its refusal to permit alleged simon-pures from jim- mying in on the professionals, writes Harry Gray- son from New York.

been playing golf ever since. He has been the Australian Open and Amateur champion two years hand
But he will have to make the jump to do so in this country.
Which is the way it should be.
