G.P.O. Letter Theft Case: Postmen And Two Others Accused

MA WAI-MAN, 32, Chu Wai-ying, 28, a mar- ried woman, Leung Fuk-lam, 38, postman No. 135, and Lam Sik-yu, 37, postman No. 29, were all be- fore Mr. G. T. Lowry this morning, on charges of receiving stolen letters, and theft of letters from. the General Post Office.

Ma was charged with receiving 10 letters in Garden Road on Tuesday, knowing they were stolen, and also with possession of postal packets without lawful au- thority.

KWEILIN THEATRE TRAGEDY

Tragedy occurred at the Chi Min Theatre in Kwellin yester- day when four persons were kill- |ed and more than 30 injured as a result of the collapse of the rear of the establishment in the midst of a show.

OBSERVER CORPS' BAG

An Observer Corps watcher on the north-east coast of England can credit himself with one Ger- bomber. His promptness enabled Spitfires to bring the raiders down near enough for him to see the wreckage.

One evening he spotted an air- craft flying at some 17,000 feet and heading over the const. decided that "it was a German aircraft, and a Junkers 88 at that, The news, was Bashed through to the observer centre, and so to a Fighter Command station.

Spitfires were in the air within a few minutes. The enemy was quickly seen and overhauled, and the attack began. With their first bursts, the Spitfires killed the German gunner. Then the Jun- kers was disabled.

Some miles away a searchlight post saw the enemy being harassed and forced down, and then saw it crash on the heather. A. few j minutes later, officers and men of the searchlight post were on the scene and Häd falter three. Ger- mans prisoner The fourth, the gunner, was dead. “
