Quick Stopping Pitch

By BEST BALL Willie Turnesa may not be able to stop a golf ball on a dime but he does all right for himself with the quick stop pitch shot above. In rough grass, it is essential to raise the ball as quickly as possible and Turnesa does this by opening the face of the club and cutting across it from the cutside.in. This double action adds considerable left to right spin on the ball which will stop it quickly when it des- cends to earth.

Turnesa employs a slightly ерсп stance for this shot bringing his hands in close to the body at impact as the clubhead comes down on the ball. The stroke is decisively made, the blade of the club hitting the ball first and then travelling on through to take a divot. Avoid any tendency to scoop the ball up when you try this shot. The face of the club laid well back will give the ball enough loft to carry the objective.

Kowloon Cricket Club, the champions, will entertain a Civil Service team, which, with the exception of D. McLellan, who is still at camp. looks to be one of the strongest they have turned out this season. It will be interesting to see how A. Watson, promoted on the strength of a fine innings for the junior tearn; will fare in good company.

Only absentee from the K.C.C. team will be F. J. Lay, who, re- covering from a bad bout of malaria, will get his hand in once again with the juniors. With an extra bowler in B. D, Lay, K.C.C. should win if they can get Rich- ardson and Perry out fairly cheaply.

E. L. Gosano Not Playing

Recreio will not be at full strength and their bowling does not look as good, on paper, as it usually does. E. L. Gosano, their captain, will not be playing and the side will be led by vice- captain Willie Reed. The bulk of the bowling will probably have to be done by H. L. Ozorio, L. G. Gosano and G. N. Gosano, with A. M. Prata also capable of offer- ing some assistance.

Cricket Club bowling also does not look impressive, but they will have their three Army players, Grose, and Alec and John Pearce, This match should be drawn un- less some bowler does, something sensational.

In the other senior match, Craigengower should be able to dispose of Royal Scots and thus register their first win this season.
