Jack Dempsey May Box In Manila

Match With Roper Is In Offing JES CORTES ON THE JOB AGAIN

Manilans may be given a chance to see the colourful Jack Dempsey in action this year as negotiations are virtually completed to match the Manassa Mauler, former world's heavyweight champion, with Sack Roper, American heavyweight who is in Manila now and was due to meet Louis Lo- gan on Oct. 19. The only thing that stands in the way of a Dempsey-Roper bout here is the defeat of Roper at the hands of Logan when they meet at the Rizal Memorial Colliseum.

Mr. Li Lan-Bang's Far View (Mr. Plh up), season's biggest

Looking ahead for future pos- sible matches, Jes Cortes, match- maker for the Oct. 19 promotion, conceived of bringing Dempsey to Manila to battle Roper if the lat- ter whips Logan. He has already laid the proposition before Demp- sey who has replied that he has given the proposal favourable consideration and will await the outcome of the Roper-Logan bout,

Dempsey To Meet Roper

Dempsey is slated to meet Ro- per in California sometime this year but Cortes has made a more enticing offer to the bout trans- ferred to Manila. It was Cortes who brought Dempsey here last December to referee the Ceferino Garcia-Glen Lee bout for the middleweight championship of the world. Besides getting round trip clipper fare from New York, Dempsey was paid P15,000 as re- feree, the largest fee ever paid to a ring arbiter in the history of boxing,

Roper, who arrived in Manila recently is agreeable to meeting Dempsey in Manila. He feels confident he can whip Logan and has been convinced that a bout between him and Dempsey would draw more in Manila than in Ca- lifornia, he is willing to fight the former champion, who is still

By BEST BALL Wearing a glove on his lett. hand in the 1932 National Amateur proved just the re- medy, required to end a-bad siege of hooking for Lawson Little. His primary: purpose was to make himself more left hand conscious and as a result he became glove con- scious. Since that time a left hand glove has been part of his standard equipment. In fact play without one would seriously impair his confi- dence in his game.

Besides making, the player more aware of the left hand's assignment in the stroke, it gives one a sense of greater control and firmness, of grip. In rainy weather it prevents a slippery grip, in hot wea- ther a perspired one. It serves as a precaution against blisters, especially helpful during long practice sessions. Even the week-end golfer will find it useful,
