AXIS STRIKING BALKANS

Italy Expected To Make Next Move

REUTER'S DIPLOMATIC CORRESPONDENT SAYS THAT THE REPORTED MOVEMENT OF GERMAN TROOPS INTO RU- MANIA, WHICH IS NOT DISCREDITED IN LONDON, AL- THOUGH IT IS NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED, IS REGARDED IN WELL-INFORMED CIRCLES AS A MOST SERIOUS DEVELOP-

| MENT IN THE BALKAN SITUATION.

It is plainly fraught with momentous con- sequences for the Balkan States and for those countries more or less interested in that re- gion.

FASTEST FIGHTING "PLANE

The suggestion that two or three divisions are necessary for the protection of the oil- fields from the danger of sabotage is too

THE WORLD'S MOST childish to deceive anybody.

HEAVILY ARMED, FASTEST- AND MOST VERSATILE TWO- SEATER FIGHTING 'PLANS. IS BEING PRODUCED IN CONSI DERABLE NUMBERS AT THE REPUBLIC AVIATION COR- PORATION'S FACTORY IN FARMINGDALE, N.Y., ACCORD- ING TO STATEMENTS BY OFFICIALS..

The 'plane is the "Guardsman" riive-bomber, capable of releasing 1,350 pounds of high-explosive, bombs simultaneously while hurt- ling earthward at speeds excecding 370 miles an hour.

This bomb load includes onc projectile weighing 750 pounds and six 100-pound wing bombs. The giant fuselage bomb is cradled in a special displacing mechanism, developed by Republic, permitting release of the bomb with accuracy in an almost vertical dive.

Soviet Reaction

Most interesting feature of the situation developing will be the Soviet's reaction. Although Mos- cow may not show her feelings by any overt step or even com- ment, there can be no doubt that The "Guardsman" is likewise nothing is further from her armed with two 30-calibre fuse-wishes than to see Germany in- lage guns, synchronised to fire, stalled on the Black Sea.. through the propellor, and a flexi-

ble 30-calibre gun mounted in the rear cockpit.

This latter weapon is rotata. ble and can be fired in all direc. tions, forward, rearward, to either side and above or below the 'plane.

With bombs removed, the "Guardsman" becomes an effective. pursuit-interceptor to attack op- posing bombers or other aircraft. It is powered by a Pratt and Whitney Twin Row Wasp Engine.

Mr. F. A. Sutton, of Dina

It was stated that the car was

It would not be surprising if the German action was followed by some parallel action by Italy and if so it would confirm the suggestion that the Brenner talks agreed upon some Balkan plan.— Reuter..
