Interport Selections Wisely Made And Well Distributed Volunteer Sports Main Attraction This Week
Hong Kong Ladies Expected To Beat Manila Swimmers
By "Natator”
THE SWIMMING Interport Selection Com- mittee is to be congratulated on their wise selection of the team, the events having been evenly distribut- ed among the swimmers, instead of placing too heavy a burden on the few outstanding swimmers, which would give poorer results in the long run. Full advantage has been taken of the liberal quota of 14 men, and 8 women swimmers, to represent Hong Kong.
Captains for the two teams have not yet been selected, and it is understood that only one captain for both teams, will suffice.

seconds lat at Chinese YMCA ATHLETICS 20 yards fresh water pool. Miss Ko had the advantage, of two turns, otherwise she would have had perfect claim to her achieve- ment. In Miss Ho's case, shel swam in a 25 metres salt water pool, and the difference, is obvious. As a matter of interest, I would like to mention that, the record was established by Miss Young Sau-king in the elimination heats, the final being won by Miss Lau Kwai-chun in 36.2 seconds. Miss Yeung's time has been accepted as official.
Double Ten Fetes
Double Ten celebrations will be
held by almost all Chinese clubs, accompanied by aquatic exhibi- tions. For to-morrow and the day after, the Ritz at North Point will stage in exhibition, in aid of the Chinese Women's Association
for the Relief of Wounded Sol- diers. Tank stars, such as Ng Nin,
Tsun-man, Enrique Chan,
Ng Tommy Kew, and many others, will demonstrate the various strokes. The gala will end up with an All-Star exhibition water-polo game.
Chinese Bathing Club, too, will celcbrate the Double Ten, which incidentally their 30th anniver- sary, by playing-off their inter- 'members' water-polo league.
Obviously the captain will come from the men's team, and my opinion is that there is none other more qualified for the post, than Lionel Roza Per-is eira, in view of his many Interport experiences.
General opinion is that the Hong Kong izam stands a very good chance, dopending mainly on the ladies' team, which should be able to make up for what points the men's team will lose. Although times for the Manila try-outs are stated as poor, this is only con- sidering their high standards, all the times being better than local records. Results of the trials for women are not to hand, and can not be compared with local times.
Misses V. Churn, Ho Wai-king, Ko Miu-ling and Jacqueline son forming the back-bone of the feam, whilst specialists such Miss Lee Po-luen, for the breast- stroke and the Misses Lily Sadick, Celeste Guterres and Tsang Fung kwan for back-stroke, are also in- cluded in the roster.

INTER-VARSITY MEET
By "Sportshawk"
AT THE END of the first day of competition, Hong Kong University had secured a convincing lead on Lingnan University in the inter-University athle tic meeting which started on University Athletic ground at Pokfulum yesterday.
Hong Kong are leading 28-12, with another 18 events to be decided on Thursday, the "double-
tenth."
No records were broken yesterday and times generally were on the slow side, but competition throughout was keen and close finishes marked most of the events.
