TWO TONS OF HIGH explosive bombs were dropped on Krupps armament factory at Essen in a lightning R.A.F. attack made from a high level, states an official account of Bri- tish air activity over Germany.
Other targets included the docks at Amsterdam and Flushing, aerodromes at Schipol, Texel, Aldebrouck and Bussum.
The weather was extremely bad over the entire operations area and the bomber crews had to con- tend with severe icing conditions, violent electrical storms and widespread low clouds which neces- sitated blind flying over the greater part of the route.
Quays were smashed and a dry dock damaged by salvoes of heavy bombs during an attack on Brest. One pilot reported that bombs which struck on the road by the side of one of the quays caused a series of explosions as if am- munition sheds had been hit.
