Hau Ching-To And Cheung Kam-Hoi For Sing Tao

Tug-Of-War Between

Chinese Clubs

The startling news carried by the Chinese Press this morning that Hau Ching-to and Cheung Kam-hol, Eastern's principal scoring men, have signed up for Sing Tao has surprised the Chinese football public.

Many would ridicule the idea of Hau Ching- to ever playing for a team other than Eastern, and even now, in spite of this announcement, there are many who still do not belimen thir

Hau Ching-to was always con- sidered à 100 per cent. Eastern player. He could have played for South China in the days when he was one of the best Chinese left- wingers in the Colony and Eastern; just an ordinary First Division side, but he stuck to Eastern in! their lean days and last year proved his real worth by scoring more goals in League games than even Lee Wai-tong.

Many will still remember his goal in the closing minutes of the Senior Shield Final which gave Eastern the Shield.

Chang Kam-hoi, hero of the Shanghai Chinese element in thei Colony, Was Eastern's main goal-scorer last season and has Improved in every game since. On tour he was top-scorer, andi he la now considered one of the best inside-rights in the Colony.) With almost all the South China League championship team, andį with the addition of these Eas- tern players, Sing Tao are now hot favourites for the League t tle and competition trophies.

Three Uncertainties

At present there is a tug-of- war going on between the Chinese clubs. Lau Hin-hon, formerly of Eastern but now registered for Kwong Wah, is seeking a trans- fer to his old club.

Tsang Chung-wan and Chan Tak-fai have both signed up for Sing Tao, but now wish to play for South China.

The clubs concerned, how- ever, are not willing to release the players.

T'he loss of these players at the eleventh hour has placed Eastern in a very poor position, as the vacancies caused will be hard to fill and they have no junior play- ers capable of filling these posi- tions.

Eastern Postponement Application

Eastern may apply for the post- ponement of their First Division ..football game against Sing Tao on Sunday. Reasons for the applica- tion, are not yet known.
