Japan Demanding Tongking Control?

PROMISED

JAPAN'S DEMAND for transit of troops through LARGE GIFTS Indo-China is only a pretext to gain control of the Tongking province, the northern part of Indo-China, through which the Yunnan Railway runs, says a special dispatch from Kunming to the "National tress Fund have been promised Times," Hong Kong.

The correspondent quotes well-informed sources in Kunming as declaring that the Japanese demands in this connection are three in number:

(1) Tongking province to bep placed under Japanese control, (2) The province of. Annam, the central part of Indo-China, o be under joint control of the Japanese and French; |---- (3)~ Cochin-Chine;, the southern province where Salgon is situat- _d, remains a French protectorate.

The dispatch states that nego- lations over these proposals are continuing, and information is (not yet available as to whether the Indo-China authorities will

ccept them.

The "National Times" also publishes a special dispatch re- Joting that over 120 Japanese aval vessels are now concen- trated in the Tongking Bay

ra- g.on, with over 200 warplanes. Jased on Waichow and Hainan 'slands.
