German Attempt To Paralyse Life Of London

"THE PARALYSIS or destruction of London's most important functions must be the aim of any nation fighting Britain," declares the Berlin news- paper "Voelkischer Beobachter" quoted yesterday by the Stockholm newspaper "Aftonbladet."

It is an exaggeration to call the present opera- tions the battle for Britain, says the German paper. According to the German idea the correct descrip- tion would be the Battle of London.

BLACK-OUT OFFENCES

Chan Yau-lee, of No. 6, Hau Wo Street, was summoned before Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., this morn-f ing, for failing to screen the lights of his premises during the "Black- Out" on August 27.

The paper adds: "Nobody ex- pected London to be unaffected by the war since London is the' [political, economic and financial'. centre as well as the nerve centre) of the Empire.

The Berlin correspondent of the "Aftonbladet” says politi- cal
