The most brilliant-swimmer for Lal Tsun was Chan Chun- nam, who clocked 2 min. 32/2 secs for the 220, an Im- provement of 5 seconds over his recent times.

For the Eastern, Tommy Kew. was outstanding, winning the 50 yards dash easily, and starting-off for the victorious free-style relay quartet. His magnificient

spurt

as anchor man in the medley re- lay, after conceding a considerable lead, is also worthy of comment.

Miss Ko's Effort

The 50 metres free-style open to all Chinese ladies in the Colony, was won by Miss Ko Miu-lin of the Lai Tsun Union, who equall- ed the record set up by Miss Yeung Sau-king in the 6th Na- tional Meet qualification trials. Misses Tsang Fung-kwan (Lail Tsun), Ho Wai-king (C.B.S.), and Cheung Pui-chun (C.B.S.) also swam, and finished in that order.

Shooting out from the start, Tommy Kew, took the lead in the. 50 yards free-style and reached the tape in 25.9 sec., followed closely by Lo Yuk-wing (East- ern), who was steadily creeping up towards the finish. Tsang Cheung-ming and Fong Wa re- presented Lai Tsun.

Eastern's last-minute change in "the 100 yards back-stroke,

Lui Sek-kwan for Sek Kam-pui, who was reserved for the medley re- lay, proved disastrous for them, as they conceded full points to Lai Tsun when they could have taken second place with Lau Yiu-ting, (Lai Tsun) the race quite easily in 77.1 secs. leaving Yeung Man-kit and Lui Sek-kwan, both of Eastern, far behind.

Sek. won

Substituting Yau Sai-kwan for Lau Tai-ping, Lai Tsun managed, to obtain first and second places in the 220 yards free-style, Chan Chun-nam accounting for first! place with his superb swimming, and Yau Sai-kwan making second) place. For 10 lengths out of the 11, Lee Fook-ke (Eastern) dog- gedly trailed Yau, hoping to out- swim him on the last lap, but he found You more than equal to the occasion, whilst he himself experienced difficulty in the fresh water," and was incapable of a final spurt Ng Chor-kin, swim- ming for Eastern, dropped out after five lengths.

Decisive Race

By far the most thrilling event of the evening was the 120 yards medley relay, and it was evident from the beginning, that the out- come of the event would give) either one of the teams the all- important three points for victory.

Shek Kam-pui, swimming back-j stroke for Eastern, conceded

Д

lead of a full body's length to Lau Yiu-ting, which was main- tained by Fong Chung-U over veteran Kwok Chan-hang in the breast-stroke.

Some surprise was caused by the announcement that Tsu Kam-~- mun and Yeung Kal-wa would represent Eastern in the 100 yards breast-strolte, os It thought that Kwok Chan-hang, former Colony record holder would be the logical representative, and as the result of the race proved,
