ALLEGED PIRATES IN COURT

A vivid story of cruelty. by a gang of pirates who were alleged to have left some 30 people to burn to death in the hold of a blazing Junk was related before] Mr. E. Himswörth at Kowloon Magistracy this morning.

Five men were charged with having on May 6 and 7 assaulted the seamen and passengers оп board a Hong Kong registered) junk, No. T1000H and to have robbed the master of 1,192 four- gallon tins of kerosine, clothing, money and jewellery.

Accused were Sin Shing, 30, Hui Fuk-shing, 40, Ng You, 32, Hui Sik-man, 27 and Lo Fuk, 29.

According to the prosecution, the junk left Cheung Chau Island for Toi Shan District on the morn- ing of May 6 with 30 persons, in-] cluding children and women on board.

About 8 p.m. the same day

while between Lin Tin Island and Sam Mun Tsai in Chinese waters they were stopped by the pirates' junk. Over 10 shots were fired at them before they were stopped.
