THE PARLIAMENTARY Secretary to the Min- istry of Food opened the Commons debate yesterday on the work of his department which he pointed out was an enormous business undertaking with trad- ing accounts amounting to nearly six hundred mil- lion pounds yearly.

The Ministry controlled food imports, they con- trolled all essential home-produced foodstuffs, they rationed distribution where necessary and they re- gulated food prices.
