EIGHTY-FOUR
TAXATION
HOURS A WEEK IN WARNING
ARMS FACTORIES
SOME OF THE THINGS that made Britain's present arms production drive possible were described by Mr. Ernest Bevin, Min-- ister of Labour and National Service, in a ~speech in London yesterday.
He had asked munition workers to work 84 hours a week, he said, and to work "like hell" to keep up production. They had responded nobly.
A system of hours of work has been devised by which Maximum production can be kept up as long as
we like while providing the workers with rest to
keep up their health.
Mr. Bevin appealed to married women, middle-class women and those who had never done any- thing much to do a couple of days work in the factories and thus give the ordinary workers time off.
