BATTLE WITH FLOODS

Tientsin, To-day.

A 1,500-feet opening has been made in the Tientsin- Pukow Railway dyke in order to divert the flood waters to the sea or to the Hai Ho,

The old inner flood prevention dyke at Tientsin has been reconstructed and of all other dykes along tributaries the Hai Ho have been repaired and are expected to hold the waters which are higher than usual.

Another flood is not likely to Tientsin this year but no definite pre diction can be made as the rainy sea- son has not yet started in the North. -Havas.

EUROPEAN BITTEN BY A CAT

Mr. J. C. Saunders of No. 30, Kim- berley Road, was bitten by a cat on the right wrist yesterday. The animal was sent to Mautaukok for observa- tion, while Mr. Saunders was treated privately.

SUICIDE IN PEAK KITCHEN

Lin, A 24-year-old gardener, Lui was found dead inside the Chinese kitchen at No. 4, The Peak, yesterday evening. He had hanged himself.

$100,000 ESTATE

Letters of administration with will annexed have been granted to Mr. G. N. Tinson in respect of the estate, amounting to $109,700, of the late Marie Alice Chollot (nee Cherpitel) widow of J. J. Chollot and formerly

of Rue Marcel Tillot, Shanghai. The deceased died on August 2 last year.

WOMAN INJURED

An elderly woman, Cheung Leung- chi, was admitted to the Queen Mary Hospital with severe injuries sustain- ed when she was knocked down by bus No. 489 in Connaught Road Cen- tral near the Vehicular Ferry Wharf at about 1,30 p.m. yesterday.

BIRTH ON FERRY

A young Chinese woman gave birth to a child while travelling on board the Ferry launch "Man Ping" from Hung Hom to Hong Kong at about 7 p.m. yesterday. The mother and child were taken to Queen Mary Hospital.

With the entry of Italy into war further curtail- and the consequent

ment of normal trans-Atlantic surface shipping, the Clippers already have been called upon to carry practically and all the all mails Europe-bound passengers who have to travel.

Since January 1 Eastbound Clippers, and operating between New York

DANE FINED

A Dane, Lauritz Lillelund, of No. 40, Junction Road, was summoned be- fore Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., at the Central Magistracy this morning for failing to report his arrival in the Colony.

Detective Sergeant J. Hill told the Court that defendant arrived here from Shanghai on June 2 and did not report till June 11. Defendant had been previously warned by the pass- port office to report. A fine of $25 was imposed.

Two Indians of the H.K.S.R.A., Gun Club Hill, Khushi Mohamed and Nur Illahi, were both fined $25 for failing the to register themselves within prescribed period from date of their arrival in the Colony. Detective Ser- geant Hill prosecuted.
