WAR IN AFRICA: ITALIAN LACK OF INITIATIVE

London, To-day. THE WAR IN AFRICA has now been in progress ten days and it can safely be asserted, it is stated au- thoritatively in London, that the British forward troops have shown themselves very much super- ior to the enemy in initiative, dash and skill. On the Kenya front there have been many success- full attacks and the border town of Mayale was

Britain's relations with several other countries were discussed in the House of Commons yesterday after- noon, and here are some of the points made:-

On the Sudan front activities in- cluded an attack on the Mettema gar- rison by British troops assisted by Abyssinians, when 50 casualties were inflicted on the enemy.

In British Somaliland skirmishes were invariably left to the advantage of the British irregular troops.

Libyan Operations

On the Libyan front armoured patrols penetrated deep into the enemy lines to completely surprise the enemy there whose morale has been affected.

Discussions regarding a trade agree-tish ment with Russia are in progress, but no statement can yet be made.

The German trade in war materials through Vladivostock is steadily de- clining.
