CALM AND QUIET ON THE BORDER

THE SITUATION ALONG THE BORDER IN THE NEW TERRITOR- IES THIS MORNING-WAS QUIDT- AND CALM AND EVERYTHING IS NORMAL EXCEPT FOR THE PRE- SENCE OF THE POLICE MANNING THE APPROACHES; THE PATROLL- ING OF JAPANESE. SENTRIES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LO WU BRIDGE, AND THE SEVERANCE OF COMMUNICATIONS.

The influx of refugees has ceased, and the majority of the thousands which crossed on Saturday are en- camped on the hillsides at San Uk Ling.

The Japanese have not yet reached Shataukok and are presumably still at Lo Fong, apparently awaiting re- inforcements before pushing further eastwards.

London, To-day.

THE AIR MINISTRY announces that bomber air- craft of the R.A.F. on Saturday delivered a 'day- light attack on the enemy-occupied aerodrome at Merville, to the west of Lille.

Despite heavy anti-aircraft fire, a series of shallow dive attacks was made on the hangars as well as on aircraft on the landing ground.

During the day offensive patrols were flown by our fighters over France and as a result of an encoun- ter, one Messerschmidt 110 was shot down and it is considered that a fur- ther six enemy aircraft are missing. One of our fighters is missing.

It is now established that in the course of night attacks on this 'country by enemy aircraft in the last week, two enemy bombers were brought down and destroyed by our balloon barrage.

These two enemy losses are addi- tional to those already reported as having been inflicted by our fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft gunfire. Reuter.

Farmers Warned In Time

There were persistent rumours last week that the Japanese and puppets would invade the Shumchun area again. The farmers were therefore warned to be in readiness for evacua- tion so that they were not taken un- awares as on former occasions.

The fleld workers of the Rural Wel- fare Centre, residing in Wong Pui Ling, Sheung Po, Tsoi Yuk Wai, Shumchun, Lowu, Gai Chi Hai, and Po Sum were ordered to evacuate at 6 a.m. on Saturday.

From the Sudan various raids were carried out on military con- contration at Asosa, in Ethiopia, and considerable damage was done to barracks despite heavy anti-aircraft

fire.

It is also stated that aircraft of the Aden Command co-operated success- fully with the Navy in the attack on the Italian submarine the capture of which by an armed trawler was an- nounced by the Admiralty on Satur- day,
