Mindanao, on this occasion, won by the very low margin of 25 pins, indi- 'vidual scores being as follows:-

1838 1863 Star bowler of this match was bagged Emerson of Mindanao,' who 505, for an average of 101, followed very closely by Blount of the Alley Team, with 496-average 99.2.

Neate, also of the Alley Team, did remarkably well to make 484 or an average of 97 pins, while Hanf for Mindanao was well up with the lead- .ers with 482 for an average of 96.4.

Generally speaking the game was a good one, the scoring all round being above average. The sailors' average per player per game worked out at 93 pins per game, while the Alley Team were only slightly lower, with 92.

There was a good five-game ten pin match on Saturday between Asheville Officers and Asheville C.P.O's. which resulted in a win for the officers by the narrow margin of 65 pins. Individual scores were:-

Garrett was again top-scorer for the match with 856, or an average of 171 pins, while Blount was as usual very steady to compile 840. Summers was not as good as he is wont to be and had to be content with third highest score 748.

Most

There were only two scores of 200 and over registered throughout the match Blount making 203 in his third game, and Garrett just reaching 200. of the other players were not in their best scoring moods, average per game per player for "H" Division being 140 pins, and C.P.O's. being even lower with 140 pins per player.

It was a very sultry evening, however, and it is possible that the players were affected by the uncomfortable condi tions.

SANGIORGIO'S PROMISE

E. Sangiorgio, of U.S.S. Mindanao, put up a very good duck pin score on Saturday, when he bagged 132. Com- mencing with a strike on his first frame, he then made nines on his sec- ond and third, a spare on his fourth, an 8 on his fifth, a 10 on his sixth, then three spares in a row, finishing pp with 10 on his last frame. As I have mentioned in a previous article,: this player should do even better in

the future.

Although I mentioned previously that owing to the increased duties due to the war which both Service and Civilian bowlers have been called upon to perform, it was thought that it would be necessary to cancel the It is noteworthy that Garrett, who Ewo League, Third Tourney, a strong deputised for Dr. Piniochio in

feeling that it should be continued has Officers' team, was the latters' main-resulted in entry forms being sent out stay and he made the highest score for the side, notching 806 pinsaver age 161, This was the second highest score of the match, highest returned being made by C. J. Summers, for the C.P.O's, with 837 pins.

The scores generally were not very high, the players, apart from Summers and Garrett, returning, some very poor figures.

The Officers' average per game per player worked out at 150 pins each, while the C.P.O's. average was 147- not very good!

LANDOLT'S GOOD WIN

A close match in the Second Round of the Singles Handicap was played

¡between J. S. Landolt and S. H. Neate,

and in the near future this contest should be in full swing.

MACAO RACE MEETING ENTRIES

The following are the en- tries and handicaps for the June meeting of the Macao Jockey Club, to be held at the Areia Preta Course on Sunday, June 23, commenc-. ing at 3 p.m.

The Hark Sha Wan Handicap, "E" Class (half-mile):

the latter being a member of Royal Corps of Signals. The former's han- dicap was plus 20 and Neate's plus 50, 30 so Landolt was conceding some pins per game. He won, nevertheless, although only by the narrow margin of 14 pins-this result being a real tribute to the handicappers. Detailed scores were:- >Landolt (plus 20) 149 181 190 620

Neate (plus 50) 159 96 161 (plus

second, when he totalled only 96, but finished up comparatively well with 161, which totals, plus his handicap, gave him an average of 189. He would in all probability have won the match had he not falled so badly in shis second game.

In view of the"not Inconelder- :able undertaking of having to give :away 30 pine per game; Landolt's -win was most deserving.

On Monday there was an interesting impromptu five-game ten pin match between Asheville. C.P.O's. and Ashe- ville "H" Division. I have described this match as being impromptu be- ‚cause "H" Division were unable to -turn out their full side and numbers were made up by H. Blount, of Royal Signals, and S. A. Ismail.

The result was a win for O. Aasen and his men by no fewer than 158 pins, individual scores being.

ARMS AND THE GOLFER

By BEST BALL

The position of the arms at ad- dress is important and quite often reflects in advance, what the ac- tual swing mechanism will be. A straight left arm is important but as straight may imply rigidity to many inexperienced golfers, per- haps the words "extended left' might be more appropriate. For best results the right arm should be a little relaxed in comparison to the left, so that the latter will- have command of the swing throughout the greater part of the backswing and downswing art.

Lawson Little in the illustration at the top left has assumed such a position with the left shoulder raised a little to facilitate smooth- ness. The elbows, should be com- fortably close together and con- tinue being close together through- out the stroke. Having them wide apart, bent and pointing in op- posite directions actually makes these members oppose each other instead of harmoniously blending into one movement. The opposite method too, of having the arms rigidly close together so that the shoulders are tense, is also bad. This leads to stilted movement and thwarted swinging motion.
