PARIS, TO-DAY.
THE FRENCH ARE NOW CEASELESSLY COUNTER-ATTACKING AT THE POINTS OF GREATEST MENACE TO PARIS IN AN EFFORT TO STEM THE CREEPING, BUT PERSISTENT GERMAN ADVANCE TOWARDS THE CAPI- TAL.
Great masses of heavy tanks and fresh divisions have been thrown by the Germans into the cru- cial battle zones, but there is, in spite of the cri-
tical situation, a growing feeling that this is the last great effort the Germans are capable of making, and that if the French hold on for two or three more days, there will be another “Bat- tle of the Marne.”
It is pointed out in military quarters that the cost of the German offensive has been so high that the German Army must be half gone by the time the Battle of Paris is over, whether or not the objec- tive is achieved.
