hordes of Germany, the Fascist Government has waited to intervene at a moment of great- est embarrassment for the Allies.
Mr. Sin told the Court that defen- dant was employed by the "Ta Kung. Po" as a clerk in charge of English correspondence. Hsu had the power to order paper, and he signed deliv-cowardly policy to secure for Italy ery orders for 158 reels and sold them to some other firms.
Defendant absconded on January 13, and a warrant was issued for his ar- rest on January 21. He was arrested in Shanghai on May 15.
Mr. Ng Quinn said his client stole the paper to raise money, when press- ed by his mother-in-law. Hsu was employed at the small salary of $30 per month. With this small sum he had to pay debts and support his fam- ily at the same time.

LEFT BOOK CLUB AND
COMMUNISTS
Reports of a major crisis in the affairs of the Left Book Club, as a re-
of sult of 'Stop-the-War" activities some of its member-groups, are un- true, according to Mr. Victor Gollancz, the publisher, and founder of the club. But he is determined that the organi- sation shall not lend its name to these activities.
"A few-I think a very few-of our local groups seem to have got into the hands of Communists, who are using them for 'Stop-the-War' propaganda,” he told me. "This is contrary to the aims of the Left Book Club, which is intended to provide facilities for free discussion among all shades of 'Left' political opinion. If it goes on, any group which is being so used will have
to dissociate itself from us."
