EIGHT POINTS ON ITALIAN

ENTRY INTO WAR

London, To-day.

THE FOLLOWING considerations are relevant in view of Italy's entry into the war. First, this war is not a war of the Italian people to defend the honour and vital in- terests of Italy.

It has been ordered by a clique who are concerned only to maintain their own position and defend the interests of a political party.

Second, the Allies offered to meet all legitimate Italian as- pirations. There is thus no conflict between the Allies and Italy which could justify war.

Third, on the other hand there is a conflict between Italian interests and German aspirations. German hege- mony in Europe would mean the estȧ- blishment of Germany on and in the Mediterranean and, the reduction of Italy to the rank of a second-rate

power.

Fourth, England and italy were never proper enemies. Anglo-Italian friendship has rested in the past on a real community of interests. To-day Italy and Great Britain, have the same vital interest in preventing German hegemony In Europe. There is no aim more vital to the future existence of both countries.

Seventh, in the struggle between Western civilisation and the pagan lords of Germany, the Fascist Govern- ment has waited so as to intervene at the moment of greatest embarrassment to the Allies. It is hoped by this un- chivalrous and cowardly policy to secure safely for Italy such plunder as Germany will graciously permit her to have. A Long War

Eighth, this is to be a long war, Un- less Germany collapses unexpectedly, it will be fought as Mr. Churchill de- clared, on the ocean, on the land and in the air with the vast resources at the disposal of the Allies until the German menace has been lifted from Europe. DEATH OF MRS. A.W. BLISS

It is with deep regret that we have to record the death which occurred this morning, after an illness lasting some weeks, of Mrs. Eve Bliss, wife of Mr. A. W. Bliss, who was with the Kowloon Docks until his retirement some years ago.

Mrs. Bliss was a member of a well- known Hong Kong family, was an ac- tive Church worker, and was held in high respect and esteem,

She leaves, in addition to her hus- band, a son and two daughters, with whom the deepest sympathy will be felt.
