AFRAID TO FIGHT, PREMIER IN

HE TELLS TRIBUNAL

"I am afraid to fight" was the frank admission of Francis Re- ginald Mowbray, a clerk, of Em- mott-street, Mile End, E., when he appeared before the London Tribunal for Conscientious Ob- Jectors.

Mowbray said he led a clean life and had no vices. He had never fought, and he was not pre- pared to take part in the war.

Asked if he would be willing to perform non-combatant du- "No. ties, Mowbray answered, If a soldier were lying in the street, I could not help him."

Alderman G. N. Marshall (a member of the Tribunal): What would you do if you saw a wo- man knocked down by a motor. car?- would be III.

Mowbray's name was removed from the register.
