end there has been no tennis, and,' unless conditions alter very quickly, it does not look as if we shall see very this week. There are much tennis only two matches for me to comment on and both are in Second Tennis Division. In the first, Ro- yal Engineers defeated Royal Scots by 7 sets to 2. Rivett and Quinell (R.E.) had no dif- three ficulty in accounting for all Scots' pairs. Spenser and Shaw, too, showed up well for the Sappers. The other match was between 24th Bty. and 8th Heavy Regt. and resulted in a win for the former, also by 7 sets to 2. Two 24th Battery pairs, Thompson and Hannon, and Warder and Pidgeon, never conceded a set. The other pair Capt. MacMillian and Gnr. Denton lost. to Banham and Ward, and Freer and Doane, and beat Tuckly and Colet- horpe.

ON Sunday we went to see our Army Baseball team, The Royal En- gineers, in action against the Hong Kong Brewers. As was generally ex- pected the Sappers were well beaten 14-2. Written down that Baseball way the score does not do them justice, because they made those Brewers fight every inch of the way, and turned what might well have been a walk-over into a pretty good game: We have already praised these plucky Sappers for past performances and there is no doubt that they are improving; it is from these tough games that they are learn- ing the real lessons of baseball; in fact, just what the doctor ordered! The "stars" of the Sappers' team on Sun- day were "Bernard" Shaw, "Taffy" Foley, "Cherry" Heath not to men- tioned "Welfly" Welford who was in his element when he smacked his first homer.
