LEAGUE TENNIS

LEONARD AND LEE IN FORM: BARRETTO STRENGTHENS RECREIO

ALTHOUGH THE STEADY drizzle on Monday evening and the early part of yesterday morning made it extremely unlikely that any tennis would be possible, two matches in "B" Division of the Tennis League were played yesterday.

At Happy Valley, Craigengower Cricket Club had an easy passage at the expense of Kowloon Cricket Club, while Re- creio won easily against Army Tennis Club at King's Park. Kowloon, without Frank Grose and in their previous game, were right off Donald Anderson, were able to offer form and were only able to win one little resistance to the Valley team set, as did B. T. Gosano and A. E. for whom Joe Leonard and H. W. Xavier.. Lee were in irresistible form.

The fixture between South China and C. R. C. having been postptoneri earlier, and other matches being wash- ed out, the matches mentioned above were the only two played.

Neglect of COMMON ILLS MAY MEAN days of suffering

WHOLE days of suffering, and in many cases weeks of anxiety and pain can be definitely avoided by the simple action of taking ‘ASPRO.' When people realise what a wonderful medicine: ‚ tablet ‘ASPRO' is-how it soothes pain-how it reduces feverishness, and how, after ingestion in the system, being a solvent of uric acid—an in- ternal antiseptic-an anti-pyretic or fever reducer and a powerful germicide, it strikes at the cause of numerous complaints, then much suffering will be avoided--much illness prevented.

GOLF TREND IS YOUTHWARD

BY BEST BALL

Golf is no longer the 'old man's. game' it was characterized back in. the early, part of this century, As a plain matter of fact, golf. to-day belongs to the youth of the. riation insofar as the big compe- titions among the professionals. go. The amateur contingent too, younger appears to be getting though once in awhile, an old. timer, as golf age goes, does come

· through. Golfers to-day, train for the game with the same serious- ness of purpose and conditioning that features other sports such as- baseball and track. To figure in: the money one must be on the top- of his game but also in top con- dition. The number of new names that figure in the golf headlines to-day is surprising; the player who makes his livelihood at the sport just cannot afford to neglect. any item which might prevent his reaching the charmed circle and to a great degree this means the- stamina and condition of youth.

The trend to youth in this sport occurred when Francis Ouimet, astounded England and electri- fied United States by winning the National Open title in 1914 in a playoff with Vardon and Ray.. Ouimet, who learned golf the hard way, graduating from one club to a mastery of many, largely on a makeshift links in his backyard personified all American youth in this contest. The dramatic finish in which the youngster played shot for shot along with the two renowned British golfers, and won started an enthusiasm for the game that has not yet reached its peak.
