$1,000 FINE ON JAPANESE: PLAYS CHANGES ON HOTELS

DESCRIBED ÁS A MERCHANT, SIGEMORI SAKATA, 40, RESID-. ING AT THE MATSUBARA HOTEL, WAS HEAVILY FINED BY MR. R. EDWARDS THIS MORNING, WHEN CHARGED WITH GIVING FALSE INFORMATION TO KEEPERS OF HOTELS IN THE COLONY, AND WITH FAILING TO NOTIFY CHAN GES OF HIS ADDRESS.

Defendant went to the Hong Kong Hotel on February 12, signing his name in the register as Tien Cheng, a Chinese subject. He, stayed there till March 11. He again went there on March 15, giving the same name. On the same day, he went to the Luk

Defendant told the Court that he was educated at a university in Pei- ping, where he used the Chinese name, Tien Cheng. In Hong Kong, he wanted to meet Chinese friends who had known him as Tien, so he gave his Chinese name to the Hotels.

CAR DRIVER FINED

Tong Ho-chuen, was summoned be- fore Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., this morning, for dangerous driving.

At about 8.10 p.m. on April 26, a car driven by Mrs. G. H. Wasser, of No. 82, Morrison Hill Road, was wait- ing for the traffic signals at the junc- tion of Queen's Road and Stubbs Road. When her car was turning "'into Stubbs Road; defendant over- took on the right and collided, dam- aging the mudguard to the extent of $18.40.-

Defendant was fined $15, and was ordered to pay $18.40 compensation.
