LOSSES ON NAZI SUPPLY SHIPS
London, To-day. Some details of exceeding- ly heavy losses inflicted on the enemy in the sea passage between the mainland and Scandinavia are revealed by the Admiralty.
Operations were carried out by sub- marines in most adverse conditions, the flat, calm sea and bright clear moonlight greatly favouring the coun- ter attack.
Minelaying was carried out and caus- ed "considerable dislocation to Nazl communications while individual sub- marines scored striking successes in harrassing transport and supply ships.
Amongst the exploits recorded is the torpedoing of the pocket battleship Admiral Scheer. This vessel fell to an attack by Spearfish who, as already ́announced, must now be accounted lost.
On the night of April 11 through the periscope was seen the bow wave of a heavy ship. Spearfish attacked, at once and was rewarded by hearing the torpedoes hit the mark.
ANTI-BRITISH MOVE IN PEIPING
PEIPING, TO-DAY. SURMISES THAT THE JAPAN- ESE MIGHT USE THE INTENSIFIED EUROPEAN SITUATION TO CREATE FURTHER DIFFICULTIES FOR BRITISH INTERESTS IN CHINA
WOULD SEEM TO RECEIVE SUP- FORT FROM A STATEMENT BY THE ANTI-BRITISH SOCIETY IN THE LOCAL PRESS.
The statement says the anti-British movement is to be re-started shortly. It is reliably reported that the Ja- panese military here have unofficially approached the Allied and Italian Legation Guard commandants to en- quire what steps they proposed to take to prevent incidents between the guards in case Italy enters the war- Reuter.
