The object is to provide a means of recreation for members of the Chinese Staff of the Company, and as such it was régis- tered with the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs in 1931.

In 1837, the Club having got into financial dimculties, the Chief Accountant ot the Company, Mr. W. J. Brown, was approach- -ed with a view to acting as President and taking over the control of its finances, and this gentleman has since acted in this capacity.
