KREMLIN'S ATTITUDE CLEARER

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL")

Stockholm, To-day. The Soviet policy remains mysterious but signs of an evolution of the Kremlin's at- titude in view of recent events are seen by Swedish obser- vers.

Well-informed quarters confirm that Soviet diplomacy is extremely active in Stockholm, and it is even asserted that the Soviet Minister, Madame Kollontal, has opened negotiations for the purchase by Russla of Swedish iron ore.

In addition, the Moscow correspon- dent of the "Aftonbladet" reports that Russian action in the Balkans has developed in a manner constituting a veritable economic offensive against Germany.

SWOOP

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL").

LONDON, TO-DAY. “BRITAIN IS CONVINCED MUSSOLINI WILL NOT ENTER THE CONFLICT AT. GERMANY'S SIDE 'BY DECLARING WAR AGAINST THE ALLIES,"

WRITES G. WARD PRICE IN THE “DAILY MAIL."

,,

Mr. Ward Price believes that at a moment consi-

dered opportune, Italy will seize “some terri tory" in the Mediterranean which she would keep in case of a German victory.

In the event of an Allied victory she would use the territory as a basis for bargaining at the peace conference.

Mr. Ward Price says Yugo-Slavia cannot prevent Italy seizing the Dal- matian coast and would then be faced with a German invasion of Croatia, where a puppet government would be installed.

After declaring that some Italian action is imminent, the writer. adds the opinion prevails in Italy that Hit- ler fears a second, winter of war and the consequences of a Roosevelt re- election in November,'

...ONLY A BLIND?

The Italians also expect « Gør- man offensive on the western front In the summer.

Concluding, Mr. Ward Price

ex-

presses the opinion that rumours of a German attack on the Maginot Line are probably a blind to hide prepara- tions for a lightning offensive against the Balkans,Havas,
