FARMER STABBED IN FANLING "FREE-FOR-ALL”

ACCIDENTALLY BECOMING involved in a "free-for-all” in the Mui Yuen Teashop at Fanling on the evening of March 8 last, a farmer, Yeung Yuet, was fatally stabbed in the lung with a knife.

This morning at the Criminal Ses- sions, the alleged attacker, Wan Chung-ping, mafoo, was accused. of murder. His Counsel, Mr. Percy Chen, instructed by Mr. M. W. Lo, pleaded not guilty.

According to the Crown, represent- ed by Mr. G. P. Murphy, of the 20 odd people who were involved in the fight | only one saw accused strike the farm- er with the knife.

Dr. R. Alvares, Assistant Govern- ment Bacteriologist, to whom the knife was sent to be examined, said there were blood-stains on the blade, but the tests did not prove conclusively that the stains were of human blood. Under cross-examination, witness said it was definitely ascertained that the stains were blood-stains, but the test was negative as to whether stains were of human blood. He add- ed that it would require extreme heat to cause a negative result.

TWO WHO DID NOT GET AWAY

Sentence of two months' hard labour and six strokes was imposed by Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen this morning on Lok Fuk, 20, for snatch- ing a wrist watch from. a woman in Boundary Street yesterday.

For stealing two gold watch chains, valued at $165, Ng Kwong, 21, wàs given two months' hard labour by Mr. E. Himsworth.

NAVAL OFFICER TO APPEAR FOR TRIAL

Kenneth Duncan Bruce, naval offi- cer, will appear on Thursday morning at the Criminal Sessions charged with manslaughter of a Chinese, killed in Kinga motor-car accident.

On March 8 at about 8.20 p.m. wit- ness, accompanied by deceased, Wong King and Wong Ming, entered the teashop and sat next to Soong's table. Soong asked for payment of the debt. Witness told him he would pay on April I. Hearing that Wong declined to stand security, Soong struck witness and general fight re- sulted, involving some 20 people.

Witness managed to free himself and ran out.

He later identified Yeung Yuet whose body was found lying next to a well some distance from the teashop.

The case continues this afternoon.
