in

The ultimatum will also demand im- provements in the port of Lulea order to allow more rapid ship clear-

ances.

The "Daily Express" also publishes reports from Belgium announcing that Germany contemplates the seizure of the Aaland Islands, which command the approaches to eastern Sweden.

The paper says eight German divi- sions are massed in the Baltic ports, Memel and East Prussia. Ice-breakers carrying large quantities of ammuni- tion have also been seen.-Havas.

70,000 NAZI TROOPS IN COPENHAGEN

London, To-day.

Reports that troops are embarking in German Baltic ports continue to pour in; these may be intended for Norway but it is felt the threat to Sweden is an actual

one.

According to the Paris newspaper "Intransigeant," the German troop transports are accompanied by ice- breakers, and 70,000, men are massed in Copenhagen.

The newspaper declares Germany has demanded from Sweden authority to send war material to Norway. through Sweden, permission for Nazi planes to land on Swedish aerodromes and priority for German High Com-... mand communication on the Swedish

The Soviet opposition is naturally not cultivated by sym- pathy for the Allies but because they do not wish the Germans to establish a base half way between Ger- many and the Swedish iron ore deposits.

Meanwhile, it is emphasised that Finland has fortified the Aaland Is lands and mined the waters surround- ing them.

No doubt romains that the Finns will desperately resist any Gør- man attempt to occupy the Islands.

Finnish resistance will undoubtedly receive Russian diplomatic support in view of the fact that the islands are in the immediate vicinity of the Rus- sian-controlled Hangoe air and naval base; in south-west Finland, dominat- ing the entrance to the Gulf of Fin- land,
