FORGED LETTER TRICK; EIGHTEEN

AT THE CRIMINAL SESSIONS this morning, Leung Wing was found guilty of demanding money on a forged docu- ment and sentenced to 18 months' hard labour by Sir

Atholl MacGregor.

Mr. E. H. Williams, assisted by Det Sergeant Dowman, conducted the case for the Crown, while defendant was not represented.

The jury was composed of Messrs. E. G. Smith (foreman), A. A. Axevedo, T. Waller, Wong Kwan-yin, Ka Yong-lui, Ramon Kau and Wong Woon Ching.

Complainant lived at No. 97, Lion Rock, with her children, her husband was in Yunnan.

On February 21, an amah brought a letter written by the husband. In the-letter, he mentioned that he had a friend in Yunnan who was anxious to send money to Hong Kong for his son's marriage but could not find any shop willing to transfer the money. The wife was instructed to pay $300 to Lee Tai-Fong, brother of the bridegroom.

Acting on information in a book left behind by robbers after ransacking No. 15, Kilung Street, second floor, on Friday morning, Det.- Sgt. McPherson, attached to Sham- shuipo Police Station, arrested four men and recovered, the whole of the stolen property, to the value of $2,700 the same night.

At Kowloon before Mr. Q. A.A. Mac- fedyen this morning, Lo Yau, 38, Yan Kwal-chul, 33, Suh Kun, 33, and Li Tak-ming, 41, were charged with armed robbery.

A goldsmith, Yu Sau, was charged with receiving.

All were remanded.
