BADMINTON NOTES

ONLY ONE DIVISION OF LEAGUE NOT DECIDED

RECREIO'S FINE MIXED DOUBLES RECORD

(By "ADREM”)

ALL DIVISIONS OF Hong Kong Badminton League are now decided with the exception of "B" Division in which St. John's are very favourably placed.

As matters now stand they are required to win their last match-against St. Andrew's--in order to win the championship. Only team which is in a challenging posi- tion is King's, who, with the same number of games played, are two points in arrears, King's last match is against Recreio.

secure the runners-up. berth. The Misses K. J. Hung and Uheng Khoo were comparative novices and it was only the brilliant work of the men that enabled them to get as far as they did.

In other matches

played in the

course of the week, St. John's scored a good win over St. Teresa's who have fallen away badly since Francis Tsang has been unable to turn out. Con- sidered at the beginning of the season to be in the running for the champion- ship, the Saints were only able to secure one game against St. John's.

An interesting game was played at Kowloon Cricket Club between

K. C. C. and Kowloon Tong. The

recent matches

latter team have played most of their without F. S. Ko, who was laid up following a minor operation.

With him back in the team to re- sume his old partnership with R. E.

Lee, Kowloon Tong should have won handsomely, but Ko's

enforced ab-

sence was reflected in his play and, as Lee was also out of touch, this pair were only able to win one game.

FOOTBALL REVIEW

(Continued from Page 24)

AS the result of injuries to Cheung Wing-choy and Moxham, both of whom were Invited for the Saigon trip, the Association is-without a goal- keeper and it is expected that Tam Kwan-kon, who played in Manila, will be invited,

There is a general belief that Tam is not at present playing well but those who witnessed the game be- tween South China "A" and Kwong Wah on Wednesday will say that he played as well as he has ever done.

THE uncertainties of the international situation may cause South China to cancel or defer their South Seas --tour this summer. Permission has al- ready been obtained from the Foot- ball Association for the trip.

IT was gratifying to see Army put up so gallant a fight against the Combined Chinese in the Final of the Lai Wah Cup competition last Sunday. Army were forced to make several -changes at the last minute and Guy at- full back played a sound game; Bright in the pivotal position was also pro- minent.

THE game on Sunday between South China and The Rest should be in- teresting and, if the teams turn out as -chosen, a good game is expected. All the remaining senior clubs are repre- sented in the Rest team which, on the whole, is as good a team as any which has yet represented the Association.

THE trophies and medals for the winners and runners-up of all three divisions of the League will be presented by Mrs. M. K. Lo, wife of the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo, at the con- clusion of the game. It is expected that the 11 players in the teams concerned will be there to receive their medals, In the case of Eastern, they are at present in Manila and it would suf- fico if a representative received the flot for that Club.

P. K. Hui, working hard for ex- aminations, was not as effective as in previous seasons, while Yong was inclined to be inconsistent, but P. S. Bun, slightly built but possessed of great fighting spirit,

was responsible for some gallant performances and was the outstanding male member of the team on several occasions.

When

Backbone of the Recreio team was that seasoned combination of M, A Oliveira and Miss Mylthie Silva, who were rarely found wanting. J. J. Re-play 21 up. medios and Miss Olga Ribeiro also did well, the latter showing great im- provement over her form of last sea son..

GONSALVES' "GOOD EFFORT There was no regular third pair but special mention must be made of the promising form of Henry Gon- salves, who gave a very fine display against University in the match which gave Recreio the championship.

|

This obviously was not fair to Kowloon Tong, having lost service, and the game was adjudged "setted,” Kowloon Tong winning 3—1.

According to the letter of the law, the umpire was correct as the rule "The claim to "set" the game states: must be made by the side which first reached 19 or 20 before the next ser- vice is delivered, after the score has
