HITLER WILL

BE SCUTTLED

A predlotion that when the Germans have been put in their place Hitler would **ascuttle" himself, was made by Mr. Jan Mášáryk, formerly Czechoslova- klan Minister in London, when hé addressed the British and North American Luncheon Club. ..."The Germans aro torribly stupid," he declared. "The fact that Ribbentrop spoke to Mr. Bumher Walles in German was the most fantastically stupid thing imaginable. He speaks Én- glish as well na )- do."

AMAH WINS APPEAL

AT THE SUPREME COURT THIS MORNING, YUE AH KIU OF NO. 7 CROSS STREET, SUCCESSFULLY APPEALED AGAINST THE CON- VICTION OF DECEMBER 14 WHEN SHE WAS FINED $25 FOR RECEIV- ING $750 ON BEHALF OF LI AH YUE AND FRADULENTLY CONVERTING SAME TO HER USE AND BENEFIT.

Appellant was convicted by Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen at the Kowloon Court on December 14 and the grounds

· ́of appeal were that the conviction was against the weight of evidence during the hearing of the proceedings, that there was no evidence or not sufficient evidence on which to found the said conviction, and lastly that appellant was hot guilty of the offence.

I STAY WITH A GERMAN FAMILY

(Continued from Page 10) "He isn't mine!"

Theirs, then; we all know what he wants us and the rest of the world to believe. We get it in millions of leaflets, daily almost, But that's propaganda. We know what to expect if we lose."

"And the radio?"

"I haven't got a radio. I hate the thing." "Is, it true that it is really dangerous to: listen to foreign transmission?"

"Dangerous! Is it dangerous to motor-at | 40 miles an hour in London? There is a rule about it and it has to be respected. If you don't you Ince the consequences.

That is all. It is a matter of discipline.".

I could hardly imagine Heinrich was the same man who, only two, years previously, had been so Impatient about being made into a soulless machine and had told me with impotent rage of the Calvary of his family. of the indignities inflicted on his brother-in- law, of the way the Anschluss had been pre- pared and carried out in Austria, of the wanton uselessness of it all.

HERO AT A PARTY

That same evening I was taken to a com- ing-of-age party for the son of a neighbour. Everybody was taking along elaborately. packed parcels, and I suggested that I might go to the town and buy something. there was no time; so, on Heinrich's sug- gestion, I sacrificed two pairs of my best new socks.

But

It was a very young party. That branch of the family was "pure," So practically every male was in uniform, laurel leaves, and on the plane, one of Hess, There was a picture of Hitler wreathed in

autographed.

For the rest, quite a jolly party, We sang, we danced, we drank rather sticky sekt. of an artillery The boy-in the uniform second-lieutenant, with a cropped head and an incredibly pink, round face was the hero of the party, naturally. The fact that on the morrow he was to leave for somewhere in Poland gave an added significance to the

festivities.

Of the young people's opinion on more momentous matters I could, of course, gather nothing: besides they were all so

tresh from their various schools that all they would have done would be to recite by Mr. heart some speeches by the prophets of the Mr.new philosophy.

Mr. Harold Lee instructed by Kwan was for the appellant while E. H. Williams appeared for the

Crown.

It is of no use searching in Germany for unorthodox undergraduate points of view a la Oxford Union. It never did exist much

gine it would be strangled at birth.

One buxom young girl. asked me gaily if I had any new records in my luggage.

I must say that the local supply was poor and elderly. The most recent foreign addi- tions were, I should say, the plaintive "Little Str Echo," and the boisterous Walk."

After Mr. Lee had made submis-and, at the present moment, I should ima- sions, the Chief Justice said that the charge had been altered from the sum of $1,500 to $750. At first sight it appeared that appellant had a right to the share of the ticket and it would have been better if the Magistrate had given a chance of cross-examina- tion of the Crown witness after the alteration of the charge.

As regards the $750, His Lordship said that he could find no authority for him to make an order.

It was not common ground that the money belonged to complainant and it seemed a case for a civil action. He dered that the money be kept for some time and that if no civil action was taken for return of same an ap- plication was to be made by appellant. The case arose out of the winnings of the Kwang Tung Handicap Sweep in October last when a syndicate of amahs won the prize. The dispute arose over one share of the winning prize.

These were the only kind words about England I heard during the whole of my stay in Germany."
