Allied Precautions In The Mediterranean
ITALY MAY BE
DRAGGED INTO WAR
NAZI RAID ON SCAPA FLOW
London, To-day.
German aircraft yesterday evening carried out a large- scale raid on the British na- val base at Scapa Flow.
Many heavy bombs were dropped in the vicinity of the few haval vessels at the anchorage, but there were no hits and no damage was done.
The German machines were com-
pelled to fly high owing to the ter rific fire of the shore post A.A. bat- teries, and were finally driven off by fighter planes.
Anti-aircraft batteries were also in action off the North-East coast against what were apparently reconnaissance planes. No bombs were dropped.
