Measures Taken Against All Eventuality

TROOPS TAKING UP DEFENCE POSITIONS

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL”)..

Amsterdam, To-day. THE AUTHORITIES ARE TAKING very important defence measures along the German border in order to prepare Holland for any eventuality. In several small towns in the vicinity of the border, hospitals and schools have been evacuated. Motor traffic in the Limburg district was stopped altogether and barracks erected at strategic points.

Telephone communications were interrupted last night for several hours.

Particular care has been taken as regards the country's defence against air raids and large numbers of anti- aircraft guns recently purchased from abroad; namely Italy, are being placed in position.

The general impression is that the the defence measures taken during past few days exceed those enforced last November when the country was first threatened by the Reich.-Havas.
