JAPAN AND ALLIED BLOCKADE IN

PACIFIC

London, To-day.

IN CONNECTION With statements made by a Japanese spokesman about Allied blockade measures in the Pacific, it is learned here that in the course of informal talks, Japan expressed the hope that we should avoid taking naval ac- tion in Japanese waters.

It is pointed out here that we do not intend to take any illegal action, and as far as possible regard will be paid to the susceptibilities of the Japan-

ese.

Nevertheless, Britain cannot forego

her legal rights as a belligerent and these will be exercised to the full when such a course is necessary.

Official London circles refute rumours of anything like a blockade of Vladivostok. It is true, however; that attempts to carry contraband in neutral ships may result in such ships being stopped.-Reuter.
