British Plane Routs Six Nazi Attackers

STING IN TAIL OF SUNDERLAND

London, To-day.

A SINGLE SUNDERLAND TYPE flyingboat routed six German aircraft attacking a convoy in the North Sea on Wednesday, Reuter learned yester- day.

The R.A.F. plane shot down one German in flames and so damaged another that it was forced to land in Norway.

It was the first time a British flyingboat had been in combat and its opponents were the Junker 88 type which are among the latest, fastest and most manoeuvrable German type.

It was this plane which landed in Norway.

The Junkers got the full sting of the Sunderland's tail as they finally departed.

The Sunderland landed safely at its base with its controls shot away.

The captain had an eyelid cut by chips of metal and the second pilot had a slight ear injury. Router.

These men were too old to serve 'when the obligatory military service came into force in 1985.

The correspondent estimates that a total number of about 6,000,000 men are under arms in Germany —Havas.
