NEUTRALS ON WAR DEVELOPMENTS

Berne, To-day.

B

THE SWISS PRESS divides editorial attention between the German White Book and M. Molotov's speech. The "Tribune" says: "This publication (the White Book) is clearly intended to counteract the profound im- pression created in the whole world by the French Yel- low Book and the English Blue Book."

The "Zurcher" declares: "Molotov's injunction that no one must forget Russia's intention to pursue her own politics was clearly addressed to Ger- many, and. Berlin seems deeply dis- appointed with Russia, who has wise- ly pocketed her winnings without having to stake all on the German card of victory or defeat.

"Moscow, being anxious about General Weygand's army, is eager to avoid giving the Allies any pretext for attack.

"Nevertheless the Kremlin appar- ently realises that Russia's protesta- tions of neutrality may some too late and that maybe a collision with the Allies is inevitable. How disastrous Russia considers such a war would be can be clearly seen in Molotov's speech,"

HUNGARIANS EXPECTANT

The Hungarian press betrays a mood of expectancy of the British blockade intensification.

The "Magyar Orszag” believes Bri- tain will attempt to enhance the con- trol sufficiently to make neutrals en- tirely dependent upon her pleasure, even by entering the Black Sea.

The paper also stresses the signi- ficance of Molotov's vague reference to Rumania.

The "Magyar Nemzet” ́ stresses London's mistrust of Russian pro- mless and Molotov's equivocal statements, while quoting the So- vlet paper "Pravda” as 'repeating the statement that the Soviet ig ready to strengthen connections with the West.

.

The "Magyar Nemzet" also stresses the significance of the report that Britain desires to extend the blockade to the Adriatic.--Reuter.
