· Once the team shoots the stage was set for the battle at 700 and 800 yards, the result of which

would decide the destination of the Governor's prize. At 2.15 p.m. firing began at 700 yards and a shoot off . on this range gave Lt. Cooper top place. At 3 p.m. the final shoot at 800 yards began and excitement was intense throughout the firing of the 10 rounds. Lt. Otway, with a fine 49, carried off the trophy for this range, but the final count showed that Lt. Le Seelleur, R.E., had just beaten E. A. Gilpin, Royal Navy, by a point for the Governor's prize.

This Tale of a Button comes from a friend who has recently been in Berlin.

An American newspaper dor- respondent In Berlin lost a but ton off his overcoat. In vain be searched the shops of the Ger- After man capital for a button. almost giving up hope of over finding one he saw exactly what he wanted on the coat of a col- league sitting next to him at a Press conference.

The temptation was too great to be resisted. He quietly twisted off the button and pocketed it. This invasion of another. man's Lebensraum did him little good. Ha le still going about with one button missing from his over- cont. Nowhere in Berlin could he find any thread.

In traditional style he was car- rled by his fellow competitors from the firing point tent, there to be cheered and con- gratulated by the large crowd pre- sent for the prize distribution. The prize list showed that the meeting had been a triumph for the Royal Engineers. The Governor's Prize, the Grand Aggregate and the All Comer's Aggregate, the three major competitions, went to Le Seelleur, who in addition to shooting helped in the preparations.
