KEEN RIVALRY BETWEEN EASTERN AND S. CHINA

By "REFEREE”

With every reserved seat already booked Caroline Hill ground will to-day be the scene of the greatest soccer game ever played between two Chinese teams in Hong Kong; South China "A", holders, meet Eastern in the Final of the Senior Shield Competition.

South China have twice beaten Eastern by narrow margins in the League and în the last games on Club ground, Eastern were leading by two clear goals in the first half, only to be deprived of a draw by sensational last minute goal by Lee Wai-tong.

The fitter team should be the win- ner for there is little between the two teams, though South China have a slight advantage in the forward line. Lau Hin-hon and Tam Kwan-kon, the goalkeepers of Eastern and South China respectively, are about equally sure in his matched. Lau is not so handling as Tam, but the latter is less reliable against an onrushing for R.A.S.C. ward.

Lee Ting-sang is undoubtedly the best of the four backs, who will be on view but his combination with Mak Shui-hon is little superior to Eastern's backs, Tsang Chung-wan and Kong Sing-king.

end of the season with the obvious

Connieber, a 1940 Australian pony belonging to the Marber stable, gave trouble this morning in the course of its training when it threw its Chinese riding boy near the 1-1/2-mile post. Fortunately, the rider landed on his feet when thrown and was able to re- furn to the stable none the worse for his unusual experience. The pony ran for quite awhile before it was caught on the grass track near the seven furlongs post. It was later taken out by another Chinese riding boy to com- zavor
