THE AIR MINISTRY announces that a Coastal Command aircraft while on patrol over the North Sea yesterday encountered two enemy air- craft. During a prolonged engagement one of the enemy aircraft was repeatedly hit. It was seen to be seriously damaged and it is considered improb- able it was able to reach its base. The British aircraft returned safely.

This is the 48th German 'plane to be shot down over or near Britain since war began, while at least 10 others were so badly damaged it is unlikely they got back safely.

Another Nazi 'plano which `ap- proached the Shetlands from a great height at noon yesterday was chas- ed until it was lost in the clouds, Although it flew over the Shetlands, it dropped no bombs. Reuter.
