Sir John Anderson, Home Secretary, said this in the House of Commons in reply to Rear-Admiral Beamish, who asked whether he had any statement to make regarding the dangers to the civil population of the possible use of a new war gas by the

enemy.

Sir John said he assumed the gas which Admiral Beamish had in mind was arsenurated hydrogen, the properties and limitations of which had long been well known to all competent chemists.

In the Commons on Wednesday the Government had a good day from the parliamentary point of view.

The vigour of Mr. Chamberlain's speech was followed by news of the attack on Sylt and by the firm note In the speeches of the War Minister, the Air Minister and Mr. Churchill.

Criticism made little progress in the debate and has since receded further.

The question remains whether Ca- binet changes, expected for some time past, are probable during the Easter

vacation.
