CHEUNG CHAU THEFT FROM

CHILDREN'S ESCAPE

At 130 on Sunday morning resl- dents on the eastern end of Cheung Chow island had their faces showered with broken glass, heard shrapnel spattering into their rooms, and

on roof tops, as the loud blast of an ex- ploding mine startled them awake.

There were no casualties but every one of the ten or more nearest houses suffered the breaking ol. from hålf a dozen to four dozen panes of glass. Doors were splintered, and

even a

bar in place against the strong east wind was lifted from its hooks and shot about.

DODWELL'S

Ho Ki, 18, unemployed, was brought before Mr. T. J. Houston at the Cen- tral Magistracy this morning charged with the theft, of 144 typewriter- ribbons, from Messrs. Dodwell and Company.

Detective-Sergeant J. Forrest told the Court that a Chinese went to Dodwell's and ordered 144 typewriter- ribbons. The man asked that the goods be delivered to a shop in Des Voeux Road Central. A messenger was sent with the man. On arrival

outside the shop Ho Ki told the mes- senger to leave the ribbons with him, and to follow the man inside to col- lect the money. When the messen-
