MACAO RACE MEETING
(By "RAPIER")

The March meeting of Macao Jockey Club will be held at the Arein Preta Race Course, Macao, on Sunday, when an entertaining programme of six events will be contested.
BOWLING ALLEY JOTTINGS
By “STRIĶE”,
AS 1 predicted in my last week's notes, the friendly five-game Ten Pin match between the Champs and the Alley Team turned out to be one of the best matches ever played in these Alleys. This match was played on February 22, too late for me to comment up in my last notes.
The Champs won by 111 pins only, the individual scores being:-
The Hong Kong. Canton & Macao Steam boat Co.'s S.S. "Taishan" will leave Hong Kong at 8.00 a.m. and racegoers will return on S.S. "Kinshan", which leaves Macao at 3.00 a.m. Monday, as S.S. "Taishan" is at returning from the Portuguese Colony 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. RACE NO. 1. THE PLEASANT QUARTERS HANDICAP: SIX FURLONGS, The opening race of the day is confined of ponles to China ponies. Subscription Macao Jockey Club of any season with a Jockey proviso that subs. of Hong Kong Club are harred.
Shanghat 4, winner of the Szechucn Han-Ernie Hearther..817 Chas Miller......805 dicap. (First Section) over five furlongs at the January meeting, has been penalised 20 lbs., but if it starts here it will probably carry off the race in spite of the heavy burden of 160 lbs. The real danger will

second section of the above handicap, which has been allotted 135 lbs. a difference of 25 lbs. In weight. Then there is Hogmanay to be reckoned with as this pony ran third to Shanghai In the above-mentioned race when carrying the same weight. It has 25 lbs. advantage in weight on Sunday. My nomination is Shanghai 4 to win with Merry Maker second and Hoemanay third. RACE NO. 2. THE REPUBLICAN HANDI. CAP (SECOND SECTION): ONCE ROUND. The entries for this race come from the first section of "E" Class China ponies classifled by Hong Kong Jockey Club, and it appears to me that Lucky Eleven, which came in second to Palmer in the Wuhu Handicap last Saturday at the Valley, stands about the best chance of winning. The only pony capable of giving it a good fight is Heddon, winner of the Chinghal Handicap (First Section) at Macao's last meeting. Rose Day, winner of the second section, is also likely to be in the running for honours in view of its light weight of 145 lbs., How- ever, Lucky Eleven should win with Heddon second and Rose Day third.

The scoring was better than is usual in a match of this character there being no fewer than seven scores of 200 and over, the Champs bagging four and the Alley Team,
three.
Fawcett registered the highest with 221, Dick Venezia was next with 215, Chas Miller following with 200. and J. S. Landolt fourth with 206. Doc Molthen and J. H. Watts each registered exactly 200.
Highest score for the five games was made by Dick Venezia, with 920 or an aver age of 184 pins per game; this was followed by J. H. Watts with 884 or an average of 173, and Doc Molthen with 170.
This is zood bowling and was a pleasure to witness. The average pins per game each player, being as follows:-

WELL-KNOWN NAVY FOOTBALLERS LOST IN ACTION
AMONG THOSE WHO made the supreme sacrifice when H.M.S. Daring and Duchess went down were three footballers who played here for Royal Navy last season.
Webster, Bellis and Spiller are the men and all played regularly for Navy when available.
Webster, it will be recalled, played in the pivotal position after Dixon, the Interport pivot, left the Colony, while Bellis was a half back of no mean standard.

In the race for the Governor's Cup, over one mile, the finish was most disappointing. Challenged only by Rose Evelyn, and mak ing an appearance for the first time, King Kong (Mr. Chao) virtually walked home to win handsomely.
The meeting itself was devoid of any serious accidents. Mr. Tang received a nasty kick on the leg when he was unscated by Finalist, a new Australian pony, which prevented him from taking further part in the meeting. Then Mr. G. P. Gram came down on Alber, another

NAVAL INTEREST
at
They not only become keen and interested In the game, but many of them have proved to be adepts at it.
I have in mind one of our Naval Boys, P. Bowditch, Able Seaman, who did re- markably well on February 24, his effort being 220, made up as follows:-four strike in a row, a spare an eight on his sixth frame, then 3 spares in a row. This was a good effort and Bowditch now becomes member of the 200's Club.
#
There are many of the British Navy who
expect in the near future to be able to com- ment on their progress in this columán.
Our old friend J. R. Fawcett of the En- gineers put up a good score on Tuesday, his effort being 232 made up as follows:-- starting with a spare, then two strikes, to get only seven on his fourth frame and nine on his fifth frame, then two atrikes, a sparo, and then striking out; a good effort but not his best, for a October 1038, he bagged 284..
This is the main event of the day, and the special $1.00 Cash Sweep will be decided on it. I expect to see the following start: Fairy Auk, Fairy Ousel, Gold Clause, Hoare progressing from day to day, and I henfels. Rothesay Bay and Victory Life. Fairy Auk is the pony to follow in this race as it came in second to Shanghai 4 in the Szechuen Handicap at the last meeting and. with 'Shenghal 4 starting in the first race. it should win. Only pony capable of extend- ing it is Victory Life, which, although not as yet, if having done anything of note coming along quite nicely in training. A good struggle for third position should take
I see that we have another member of the place between Fairy Ousel and Gold Clause: Royal Signals who is gradually coming to RAGE NO. 6. THE KUO HUA HANDICAP: the front in Indoor Bowling, viz. L/Cpl.

shorter en longs and as the distance is Sunday, and with Cloudy Star competing in are: two really good efforts, I expect that the third race, it will probably win. but this player's name will be in the limelight there is Eagle to be taken into considera- tion. This pony has been running indiffer- ently at its last outings, but if it strikes some of its old form it will probably give Iron Knight a good fight for the frat position. National Triumph should have no difficulty in collecting third place; money. *
