In their first round fixture Kowloon Tong won fairly easily by 6 games to 3.

The Saints were never in any dif ficulty last night and won seven games in a row. For the visitors, R; E. Lee and A. E. H. Castro could never get together and although both played, some good shots individually, they left so many openings for the opposition that they soon became de- moralised.

ST. JOHN'S WIN At the Cathedral Church Hall, St. John's had little trouble against Kow- loon Cricket Club and won with the loss of only one game, which was se- cured by J. L. Anderson and A. Le Fisher against Henry Eardley and R. Beavan.

By BEST BALL While the right hand bears the brunt of everyday tasks, it is the left hand which should lead the way in golf. As a rule this handi- caps many beginners. To remedy the situation as much emphasis as possible should be given this member to make the player con- scious of its role in the game. All sorts of odd reminders of this fact are possible, and the sum total should lead to a really use ful left, capable of taking its full part in the stroke. Pick up the club with the left hand, set the tee with this member, and carry. the club on the port side. Of considerable help is a punching bag, on which left jabs can be practiced.

to

It is wise to allow the hand to grasp the club first. Do this with the palm facing down; so that the grip will be firm and in the best position for swinging and gulding the club. It is also smart to align the clubhead with the ball be- fore assuming one's stance. This favours an upright stance as well as a truer one in respect to the correct distance the player should stand from the ball.

BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS TO-NIGHT

Opening matches, in this year's badminton champion- ships will be played this evening, senior fixtures at King's College, and junior at Taikoo.

un

Most interesting senior encounter is likely to be between S, C, Chyng and H. F. Chow: The former plays for the all-conquering Chinese team, while the latter is, the new re- cruit of this season to the University "A" team and has given several fine performances in partnership with C. K. Lee.

Henry Eardley, Shanghai champion, makes his debut to the local cham- pionships this evening against W. T. Ho, he should win fairly easily.

is

Most interesting junior match likely to be between Norman Smith, of St. John's, and Peter Lo, of St. Teresa's. Smith is a powerful play er, who has given consistently good displays but Lo, a semi-finalist. last. year, is very good at singles and hard to beat. Smith should win because of better stamina but I expect the match to go the whole distance.
