PROVES TO BE REAL
CHAMPION
THE RACE FOR THE Champion Stakes yesterday was nothing like as thrilling as the Derby, when Mr. Eric Mol- ler's Satinlight beat Quartermaster's Burford by half a Once Burford had taken the lead length in record time.
at the football stands the race was as good as over, and the Quartermaster crack finished with plenty in reserve, four lengths ahead of Satinlight, which was again ridden very powerfully by Mr. Moller, in record time.

There is no question Burford is the better pony when fit, though its deformed fetlock may give Riders who did not take part yesterday trouble at any moment, and Mr. and were Messrs. B. L. The new champion is a little stiff in the shoulder this morning, but is otherwise in excellent shape after its gruelling race.
It caused some surprise when it was seen that Navylight or Spicylight was not start- ing as it was thought that Mr. Moller, with
big string of class poules in his stable, would have sent out a second candidate in order that he might be more or less in a position to dietate how the race was to be runt to Satinlight's best advantage. There Mr. some talk on Tuesday night of

Spicylight in the record-breaking race for the Chater Cup on Tuesday, continued to show great promise as a sprinter yesterday, when it won the Grand Stand Stakes 12/5 secs, better time than Spicylight's re- card in the Maiden Stakes. There is going to be a rare tussle when these two meet again over half a mile and 170 yards and six furlongs, and it would occasion no sur. prise if the Dunbar entry won fairly com fortably.
